Job Description

Job Title: Pharmacist

Department: Pharmacy

Reports To: Pharmacy Manager/Pharmacy Senior Manager

 

Job Summary – The position will be responsible for in-store activities within the Department, including preparing, dispensing, stocking, and maintaining pharmaceutical and other health care products. The position will be responsible for providing quality customer service in a private, safe and healthy environment. Position must also observe all store and company policies; while maintaining a neat, well-groomed personal appearance.

 

Job Duties

  1. Provide all customers with prompt and courteous service in a confidential and private setting.
  2. Assist patients with prescription drug treatments with an aim to help treat, manage and prevent illnesses, pain and other symptoms.
  3. Monitor and educate patients in compliance with all regulations.
  4. Accurately and efficiently complete all sales transactions and maintain proper cash accountabilities at POS registers.
  5. Follow all department inventory control procedures.
  6. Maintain an organized and clean work area.
  7. Dispensing medications to the public.
  8. Ensure different treatments are compatible.
  9. Check dosages and ensure that medicines correctly supplied and labelled.
  10. the preparation of any medicines compounded.
  11. Update the register of narcotic controlled drugs for legal and stock control purposes.
  12. Liaise with doctors about prescriptions.
  13. Sell over the counter medications.
  14. Advise the public on the treatment of minor ailments.
  15. Advise patients of any adverse side effects of medicines or potential interactions with other medicines and treatments.
  16. Offer blood pressure and diabetic screening.
  17. Keep up to date with current pharmacy practice new drug and their uses.
  18. Supervise pharmacy support staff.
  19. Arrange the delivery of prescription medicine to patients.
  20. Maintain proper inventory management utilizing the QSL pharmacy system.
  21. Checking health insurance for eligibility and balance.

 

Requirements

  • Ability to read, comprehend, write and speak English.
  • Intermediate computer competency preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Exhibit attention to detail and commitment
  • Positive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as store dictates.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to timely multitask while working in a fast pace environment.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy
  • Experience in QS1 Pharmacy System preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Registered Pharmacist.
  • Eligible for registration as a Pharmacist in:
    1. Australia.
    2. Canada.
    3. Jamaica.
    4. New Zealand.
    5. South Africa.
    6. United Kingdom
    7. United States of America.

  12. Notify Management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, unauthorized sampling, or property damage/defacement.
  13. Exercise proper safety practices when lifting or moving product or using equipment.

Job Function- Position Standards

 

  1. Prepare medications by reviewing and interpreting physician orders; detecting therapeutic incompatibilities.

  2. Dispenses medications by compounding, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals.
  3. Controls medications by monitoring drug therapies; advising interventions.
  4. Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians' workflow; verifying their preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals; verifying order entries, charges, and inspections.
  5. Provides pharmacological information by answering questions and requests of health care professionals; counseling patients on drug therapies.
  6. Develops hospital staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs; training pharmacy staff, students, interns, externs, residents, and health care professionals.
  7. Complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration by monitoring nursing unit inspections; maintaining records for controlled substances; removing outdated and damaged drugs from the pharmacy inventory; supervising the work results of support personnel; maintaining current registration; studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; advising management on needed actions.
  8. Protects patients and technicians by adhering to infection-control protocols.
  9. Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  10. Maintains pharmacological knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  11. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  12. Collect cash, gift cards, or other forms of payment from customer and tender accurate change in accordance to store policy and procedures.
  13. Perform ID checks when accepting credit cards or debit cards.
  14. Weigh items sold by weight in order to determine prices.
  15. Issue receipts, credits or accurate change due to customers.
  16. Handle product with extreme care, separate like items.
  17. Handle damaged or spoiled products and return-to-stock according to Front End or store procedures.
  18. Offer purchase of shopping bags and bag all goods.
  19. Maintain an organized and clean work area.
  20. Help maintain and keep neatly organized the product displays.
  21. Remove trash and clean department garbage containers in accordance to company policy.
  22. Accept and dispense prescription medications.
  23. Provide consultation on prescription and non-prescription medications for storage, dosage, side effects, and drug interactions.
  24. Provide advice on selection of Over-The-Counter medications to treat common illnesses such as flu, cold sores, or headaches.

     

     

  25. Educate patients on proper handling of medical devices such as blood pressure monitor and glucose meters.
  26. Compound medications for external or internal use.
  27. Prepare sterile solutions following proper procedures.
  28. Monitor patient medication compliance and over-usage patterns
  29. Supervise pharmacy staff members including pharmacy technicians, pharmacy clerks, etc.
  30. Proper management of patient records and pharmacy files.
  31. Maintain appropriate inventory on pharmaceutical and medical supplies.
  32. Identify patient’s drug-related problems and effectively communicate with physicians and other healthcare practitioners.
  33. Work in conjunction with physicians, nurses, other pharmacists, pharmacy interns, etc.
  34. Provide specialized educational programs and health promotions to help patients manage chronic health conditions such as hypertension and diabetes.
  35. Maintain accurate Narcotic Registry records as required by Cayman Islands Law.
  36. Provide follow up on rejected health insurance claims by contacting patients, insurance company and any other related person or entity.
  37. Supervise accurate filing of prescriptions daily utilizing scanning procedures.
  38. Play a key role in the re-licensing of the pharmacy as outlined in the National Standards for facility registration.
  39. Supervise expiry date program for prescription drugs.

 

Salary Range is from KYD$55,000.00 to KYD$58,000.00
