Job Title:             Merchandising Supervisor

Department:      Merchandising - Grocery/Dairy/Frozen/HBC

Reports To:         Department Manager and/or Assistant Store Manager assigned

 

Job Summary -The position is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the Department Manager and/or Assistant Store Manager's objectives by supervising and leading human resources in the assigned department.  The position must assist in managing daily operations, associate development and customer satisfaction. The position must also provide variety and high quality products appealingly displayed to maximize the sales and profits of the department while maintaining great customer service.

Job Duties

  1. Provide all customers with prompt, courteous and friendly service.
  2. Have knowledge of different types of products and services with the ability to make suggestions and sell to customers.
  3. Participate in training all department associates according to store policies and procedures.
  4. Supervise staff to meet department goals, objectives and budgets.
  5. Participate in associate evaluation, disciplinary and coaching processes.
  6. Participate in planning and building the department displays for maximum sales and product turnover.
  7. Perform administrative duties, scheduling and administering breaks.
  8. Monitor and maintain all logs for inventory control, ordering of supplies and/or merchandise, charts, schedules, etc.
  9. Follow all department inventory control procedures and maintain control of products and supplies.
  10. Monitor the receiving and unloading, quality, counts and condition department merchandise.
  11. Maintain an organized and clean work area at all times.

Requirements

  1. Ability to read, comprehend, write and speak English.
  2. Ability to perform basic Math and follow company’s CTO’s.
  3. Basic computer competency preferred.
  4. Comprehension of business basics preferred.
  5. Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  6. Positive interpersonal skills.
  7. Ability to work varied hours/days as store dictates.
  8. Ability to display initiative, work with limited supervision and follow instructions.
  9. Ability to make decisions and provide direction.
  10. Ability to timely multitask while working in a fast pace environment.
  11. Ability to work with largely diverse teams.
  12. Ability to lift up to 50lbs and to stand for extended periods of time.
  13. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  14. Interest and willingness to learn the Retail Industry and role of Manager.
  15. Complete Basic Food & Hygiene certification when required by the company.
  16. Successful 1-2 years’ experience in retail operations.

Job Function- Company Standards

  1. Greet, Offer to Assist and Thank (GOT) all customers in a prompt, courteous and friendly manner anywhere in the store.

  2. Effectively handle customer complaints and contact supervisor or manager if necessary.
  3. Commit to the company’s motto “BETTER BECAUSE WE CARE” and work with other associates to build a strong department team.
  4. Observe and report to shift as scheduled or assigned by Department Manager.

  5. Acknowledge and follow all department, store and company policies and procedures.
  6. Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times in accordance to company dress code.
  7. Achieve the highest associate morale in the industry by working in a style that demonstrates good work ethic by being Respectful, Supportive, and Totally Team Oriented.
  8. Practice the “Clean as you go” and proper sanitation procedures.
  9. Ensure sales and work area are swept and mopped clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards, report hazards to management.
  10. Able to operate, clean and properly store department equipment and tools.
  11. Notify Management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, unauthorized sampling, or property damage/defacement.
  12. Exercise proper safety practices when lifting or moving product or using equipment.

  13. Perform any other duties assigned by the Department Supervisor and/or Manager.
  14. Play an active role in the company’s commitment to care, quality, value and service while upholding its vision, mission and culture points.
  15. Job Function- Position Standards

    1. Inspect preparation areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food handling practices according to DEH.
    2. Assist in maintaining department’s goals and standards in cooperation with department manager and store manager (such as gross profit, presentation, etc.).
    3. Assist in maintaining accurate records (receiving logs, invoices, inventory, etc.) in a timely manner.Respond timely to all location mail and email reports and records.
    4. Order, receive, unload store deliveries, properly store, price, date, rotate, and stock and prepare product for display and sale.
    5. Assist in guaranteeing outstanding product quality and presentation through cooperation with department manager and associates.
    6. Keep all products rotated in accordance with company policy and product code dates and always make use of the oldest products first FIFO (first in, first out).
    7. Participate actively in controlling shrink (such as disposals, over production, security, shoplifting, product handling, damage control, pricing etc.).
    8. Consistently demonstrate good judgment and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful situations.
    9. Communicate needs and challenges to the Department Manager to optimize the performance of the department.
    10. Conduct team building by training and developing associates in accordance with company policy and procedures.
    11. Delegate and use initiative, ingenuity, and good judgment to act on opportunities and solve challenges.
    12. Ensure all new department associates receive proper introduction by reviewing job descriptions, goals, training manual, and objectives.
    13. Ensure fair and consistent treatment in administering discipline and warnings (verbal and written) by reporting any sub-standard performance or misconduct to store management and/or department manager within a timely manner to promote high associate morale.
    14. Ensure associates are updated on all products and any other codes.
    15.  Bring to the Manager’s attention complaints concerning food quality and service.
    16. Monitor cooler and display area temperature to ensure product quality, report refrigeration failure immediately.
    17. Remove trash and clean department garbage containers in accordance to company policy.
