Job Description

 

Job Title:             Merchandising Manager

Department:      Merchandising - Grocery/Dairy/Frozen/HBC

Reports To:         Department Manager and/or Assistant Store Manager assigned

 

Job Summary - The position is responsible for effectively planning, organizing, leading,

coordinating and optimizing the materials and human resources in the assigned department.

The position must manage daily operations, expenses, associate development and customer

satisfaction. The position must provide variety and high-quality products appealingly displayed

to maximize the sales and profits of the department while maintaining great customer service

 

Job Duties

  1. Provide all customers with prompt, courteous and friendly service.
  2. Conduct performance evaluations, associate training and development and disciplinary or coaching actions to meet department goals, objectives and budgets.
  3. Ensure that all department associates are trained according to store policies and procedures to meet the standards of the department.
  4. Maintain knowledge of products and services.
  5. Plan and build the department displays for maximum sales and turnover and assist with daily tasks of the department.
  6. Monitor and manage administrative duties, scheduling and assigning tasks and department goals and objectives.
  7. Monitor and maintain communication logs, shrink logs, product logs, to do lists, Manager’s List etc.
  8. Oversee and follow ordering, maintenance and inventory control processes for department products and supplies.
  9. Monitor the receiving and unloading, quality, counts and condition of department merchandise.
  10. . Maintain an organized and clean work area at all times.

 

Requirements

  • Ability to read, comprehend, write and speak English.
  • Ability to perform basic Math and follow company’s CTO’s.
  • Basic computer competency preferred.
  • Comprehension of business basics preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Positive interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as store dictates.
  • Ability to display initiative, work with limited supervision and follow instructions.
  • Ability to make decisions and provide direction.
  • Ability to timely multitask while working in a fast pace environment.
  • Ability to work with largely diverse teams.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and to stand for extended periods of time.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Interest and willingness to learn the Retail Industry and role of Manager.
  • Complete Basic Food & Hygiene certification when required by the company.
  • Successful 1-2 years’ experience in retail operations.

  10. Able to operate, clean and properly store department equipment and tools.
  11. Notify Management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, unauthorized sampling, or property damage/defacement.

  1. Inspect preparation areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food handling practices according to DEH.
  2. Assist in maintaining department’s goals and standards in cooperation with department manager and store manager (such as gross profit, presentation, etc.).
  3. Assist in maintaining accurate records (receiving logs, invoices, inventory, etc.) in a timely manner.Respond timely to all location mail and email reports and records.
  4. Order, receive, unload store deliveries, properly store, price, date, rotate, and stock and prepare product for display and sale.
  5. Assist in guaranteeing outstanding product quality and presentation through cooperation with department manager and associates.
  6. Keep all products rotated in accordance with company policy and product code dates and always make use of the oldest products first FIFO (first in, first out).
  7. Participate actively in controlling shrink (such as disposals, over production, security, shoplifting, product handling, damage control, pricing etc.).
  8. Consistently demonstrate good judgment and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful situations.
  9. Communicate needs and challenges to the Department Manager to optimize the performance of the department.
  10. Conduct team building by training and developing associates in accordance with company policy and procedures.
  11. Delegate and use initiative, ingenuity, and good judgment to act on opportunities and solve challenges.
  12. Ensure all new department associates receive proper introduction by reviewing job descriptions, goals, training manual, and objectives.
  1. Ensure fair and consistent treatment in administering discipline and warnings (verbal and written) by reporting any sub-standard performance or misconduct to store management and/or department manager within a timely manner to promote high associate morale.
  2. Ensure associates are updated on all products and any other codes.
  1. Bring to the Manager’s attention complaints concerning food quality and service.
  1. Monitor cooler and display area temperature to ensure product quality; report refrigeration failure immediately.

Job Function -Position Standards

 

  1. Exercise safe food handling practices.
  2. Must follow uniform policy (aprons, company hat or hairnet and proper use of gloves).
  3. Maintain the cooler, freezer, equipment, and work area to the sanitation standards of the company. Perform deep cleaning as required or when instructed by Department Supervisor and/or Manager.
  4. Stock displays and keep all products rotated in accordance with company policy and product code dates and always make use of the oldest products first FIFO (first in, first out).
  5. Fill and build displays in an appealing manner to increase sales.
  6. Offer suggestive selling by recommending products and maintaining stock levels for sales.
  7. Assist in checking and verifying department receiving when required.
  8. Follow company procedures for receiving, unloading, and putting away loads from delivery and store products in designated areas to ensure product quality.
  9. Stock and maintain sales floor and showcase; ensure products are priced accurately.
  10. Package, label and merchandize products.
  11. Recognize and react to customers’ demand. Taking orders from customers, custom food orders, and platter orders etc.
  12. Prepare and present quality products by company specifications and instructions.
  13. Prepare a variety of foods according to customers’ orders or managers’ instructions, following approved procedures.
  14. Properly load and unload ovens, using recipes and proper temperatures and duration to make goods in accordance to department procedures.
  15. Place food servings on pans & trays as instructed.

     

  16. Stock, replenish and maintain service stations with items such as soup cups, food trays, containers, utensils, coffee cups etc.
  17. Service customers including slicing, cutting, weighing, packing, and pricing merchandise.
  18. Stock and maintain food trays, utensils, containers etc.
  19. Prepare beverages area such as coffee, tea, and patties where applicable.
  20. Remove trays and stack pans for return to the sinks for cleaning.
  21. Clean dishes, kitchen, food preparation equipment, and utensils.
  22. Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
  23. Monitor cooler and display area temperature to ensure product quality, report refrigeration failure immediately.
  24. Always ensure a safe work environment throughout the store.
  25. Remove trash and clean department garbage containers in accordance to company policy.

 

Salary Range: KYD $42,500 - $44,000 Annually
