Job Description

 

Job Title:           Merchandiser 

Department:   Grocery/Dairy/Frozen/HBC/Produce/ Online Ordering

Reports To:      Department Supervisor and/or Department Manager

 

 

Job Summary The position will be responsible for in-store merchandising activities within the Department, including providing assistance to the Department Supervisor and/or Manager by maintaining, preparing and presenting merchandise and stock levels. The position will be responsible for providing quality customer service in a safe and healthy environment. Position must also observe all store and company policies; while maintaining a neat, well-groomed personal appearance.

 

Job Duties

  1. Provide all customers with prompt, courteous and friendly service.
  2. Have basic knowledge of products available, including seasonal products to promote department sales.
  3. Keep displays, shelves and refrigerated cases clean, properly stocked and faced at all times.
  4. Retrieve items that customers are unable to reach, lift, or find.
  5. Code-date and rotate all merchandise to ensure quality and freshness.
  6. Follow all department inventory control procedures.
  7. Follow company procedures to ensure work areas are clean at all times.
  8. Always show interest and willingness to learn the industry.

 

Requirements

    • Ability to read, comprehends, write and speak English.
    • Ability to perform basic Math.
    • Basic computer competency preferred.
    • Ability to follow instructions.
    • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
    • Exhibit attention to detail and commitment.
    • Positive interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work in largely diverse teams.
    • Ability to work varied hours/days as store dictates.
    • Ability to lift up to 50lbs and to stand for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to timely multitask while working in a fast pace environment.
    • Ability to endure cold temperatures.
    • Company will provide certification to complete the Basic Food & Hygiene certification. (Produce)

 

Job Function- Company Standards

 

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following.

 

  1. Greet, Offer to Assist and Thank (GOT) all customers in a prompt, courteous and friendly manner anywhere in the store.

  2. Effectively handle customer complaints and contact supervisor or manager if necessary.
  3. Commit to the company’s motto “BETTER BECAUSE WE CARE” and work with other associates to build a strong department team.
  4. Observe and report to shift as scheduled or assigned by Department Manager.

  5. Acknowledge and follow all department, store and company policies and procedures.
  6. Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times in accordance to company dress code.
  7. Achieve the highest associate morale in the industry by working in a style that demonstrates good work ethic by being Respectful, Supportive, and Totally Team Oriented.
  8. Practice the “Clean as you go” and proper sanitation procedures.
  9. Ensure sales and work area are swept and mopped clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards, report hazards to management.
  10. Able to operate, clean and properly store department equipment and tools.
  11. Notify Management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, unauthorized sampling, or property damage/defacement.
  12. Exercise proper safety practices when lifting or moving product or using equipment.
  1. Perform any other duties assigned by the Department Supervisor and/or Manager.
  2. Play an active role in the company’s commitment to care, quality, value and service while upholding its vision, mission and culture points.

 

 

Job Function- Position Standards

 

  1. Exercise safe food handling practices.
  2. Maintain the cooler, freezer, equipment, and work area to the sanitation standards of the company.
  3. Stock displays and keep all products rotated in accordance with company policy and product code dates and always make use of the oldest products first FIFO (first in, first out).
  4. Fill and build displays to an appealing manner; ensure all products are priced accurately.
  5. Offer suggestive selling by recommending products maintain stock levels.
  6. Assist in checking and verifying department receiving when required.
  7. Follow company procedures for receiving, unloading, and putting away daily loads from delivery and store products in designated areas to protect product quality.
  8. Report any questionable perishable products outside of fridge to Store Management.
  9. Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
  10. Monitor cooler and display area temperature to ensure product quality; report refrigeration failure immediately.
  11. Always ensure a safe work environment throughout the store.
  12. Remove trash and clean department garbage containers in accordance to company policy.
