Job Title: Meat /Seafood Associate
Department: Meat and Seafood
Reports To: Department Supervisor and/or Department Manager
Job Summary – The position will be responsible for in-store activities within the Department, including providing assistance to the Department Supervisor and/or Manager by maintaining, preparing and presenting merchandise. The position will be responsible for providing quality customer service in a safe and healthy environment. Position must also observe all store and company policies; while maintaining a neat, well-groomed personal appearance.
Job Duties
- Provide all customers with prompt, courteous and friendly service.
- Have knowledge of different types of meat and seafood products and services with the ability to make suggestions and sell to customers.
- Wraps, weighs, and prices all meats and related products processed in the Meat & Seafood Department.
- Take products to refrigerated storage or shelf areas.
- Ensure that all displayed shelves are properly stocked, clean and faced at all times.
- Willingness to learn product & cutting techniques.
- Code-dates and rotates all merchandise to ensure quality and freshness.
- Follow all department inventory control procedures.
- Maintain an organized and clean work area at all times.
- Always show interest and willingness to learn the industry.
Requirements
- Ability to read, comprehend, write and speak English.
- Ability to perform basic Math.
- Ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.

- Ability to work varied hours/days as store dictates
- Ability to lift up to 75lbs and to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in consistently cold temperatures of below 50 degrees.

- Company will provide certification for the Complete Basic Food & Hygiene certification.

- Effectively handle customer complaints and contact manager if necessary.

- Practice the “Clean as you go” and proper sanitation procedures.
- Ensure sales and work area are swept and mopped clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards, report hazards to management.
- Able to properly operate, store and clean department equipment and tools.
- Notify Management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, unauthorized sampling, or property damage/defacement.
- Exercise proper safety practices when lifting or moving product or using equipment.
- Perform any other duties assigned by Department Supervisor and/or Manager.
Job Function - Position Standards
- Exercise safe food handling practices.
- Stock displays and keep all products rotated in accordance with company policy and product code dates and always make use of the oldest products first FIFO (first in, first out).
- Fill and build displays; make sure product is priced accurately.
- Offer suggestive selling by recommending products.
- Maintain the cooler, freezer, equipment, and work area to the sanitation standards of the company.
- Wrap, weigh, and price all meat and seafood products processed in the department.
- Assist in stocking department receivable at the request of the Department Supervisor and/or Manager.
- Follow company procedures for receiving, unloading, and putting away daily loads from delivery and store products in designated areas to protect product quality.
- Report any questionable perishable products outside of fridge to Store Management.
- Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods.
- Monitor cooler and display area temperature to ensure product quality; report refrigeration failure immediately.
- Ensure a safe work environment on the sales floor at all times.
- Remove trash and clean department garbage containers in accordance to company policy.
