Job Title: Deli Supervisor
Department: Deli
Reports To: Department Manager and/or Assistant Store Manager assigned
Job Summary – The position is responsible for assisting in the implementation of Department Manager and/or Assistant Store Manager's objectives by supervising and leading human resources in the assigned department. The position must assist in managing daily operations, associate development, and customer satisfaction. The position must also provide variety and high-quality products appealingly displayed to maximize the sales and profits of the department while maintaining great customer service.
Job Duties
- Provide all customers with prompt, courteous and friendly service.
- Participate in training all department associates according to store policies and procedures.
- Supervise staff to meet department goals, objectives, and budgets.
- Participate in associate evaluation, disciplinary and coaching processes.
- Maintain knowledge of products, procedures, and services to assist with everyday tasks.
- Participate in planning and building the department displays for maximum sales and product turnover.
- Perform administrative duties, scheduling and administering breaks.
- Monitor and maintain all logs for inventory control, ordering of supplies and/or merchandise, charts, schedules, etc.
- Follow all department inventory control procedures and maintain control of products and supplies.
- Monitor the receiving and unloading, quality, counts and condition department merchandise.
- Always maintain an organized and clean work area.
Requirements
- Ability to read, comprehend, write, and speak English.
- Ability to perform basic Math and follow company’s CTO’s.
- Basic computer competency preferred.
- Comprehension of business basics preferred.
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
- Positive interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work varied hours/days as store dictates
- Ability to display initiative, work with limited supervision and follow instructions.
- Ability to make decisions and provide direction.
- Ability to timely multitask while working in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work with largely diverse teams.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs and to stand for extended periods of time.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Interest and willingness to learn the Retail Industry and role of Manager.
- Basic Food & Hygiene Certification.
- Successful 3-4 years’ experience in deli operations.
- Ability to endure hot/cold temperatures.
Job Function – Company Standards: The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following.
- Greet, Offer to Assist and Thank (GOT) all customers in a prompt, courteous and friendly manner anywhere in the store.
- Effectively handle customer complaints and contact supervisor or manager if necessary.

- Observe and report to shift as scheduled or assigned by Department Manager.
- Acknowledge and follow all department, store and company policies and procedures.
- Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance always in accordance to company dress code.
- Achieve the highest associate morale in the industry by working in a style that demonstrates good work ethic by being Respectful, Supportive, and Totally Team Oriented.
- Practice the “Clean as you go” and proper sanitation procedures.
- Ensure sales and work area are swept and mopped clean, orderly, and free from safety hazards, report hazards to management.
- Able to operate, clean and properly store department equipment and tools.
- Notify Management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns, unauthorized sampling, or property damage/defacement.
- Exercise proper safety practices when lifting or moving product or using equipment.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Department Supervisor and/or Manager.
- Play an active role in the company’s commitment to care, quality, value, and service while upholding its vision, mission, and culture points.
Job Function - Position Standards
- Inspect preparation areas to ensure observance of safe, sanitary food handling practices according to DEH.
- Maintain department’s goals and standards in cooperation with department manager and store manager (such as gross profit, presentation, etc.).
- Maintain accurate records (receiving logs, invoices, inventory, etc.) in a timely manner.Respond timely to all location mail and email reports and records.
- Order, receive, unload store deliveries, properly store, price, date, rotate, and stock and prepare product for display and sale.
- Guarantee outstanding product quality and presentation through cooperation with department manager and associates.
- Keep all products rotated in accordance with company policy and product code dates and always make use of the oldest products first FIFO (first in, first out).
- Participate actively in controlling shrink (such as disposals, over production, security, shoplifting, product handling, damage control, pricing etc.).
- Ability to cook Caribbean, local and international dishes.
- Assist in planning recipes, taking into consideration factors such as cost and special events.
- Observe and test products to ensure they have been cooked properly.
- Offer product samples, answer product questions, and offer assistance in finding or suggesting product selection.
- Prepare special orders that are requested by customers.
- Bring to the Manager’s attention complaints concerning food quality and service.
- Prepare meals and products in accordance with department procedures and recipes.
- Assist in planning recipes, taking into consideration factors such as cost and special events.
- Consistently demonstrate good judgment and the ability to maintain composure and professionalism in stressful situations.
- Communicate needs and challenges to the Department Manager to optimize the performance of the department.
- Conduct team building by training and developing associates in accordance with company policy and procedures.
- Delegate and use initiative, ingenuity, and good judgment to act on opportunities and solve challenges.
- Ensure all new department associates receive proper introduction by reviewing job descriptions, goals, training manual, and objectives.
- Ensure fair and consistent treatment in administering discipline and warnings (verbal and written) by reporting any sub-standard performance or misconduct to store management and/or department manager within a timely manner to promote high associate morale.
- Ensure associates are updated on all products and any other codes.
- Monitor cooler and display area temperature to ensure product quality, report refrigeration failure immediately.
- Remove trash and clean department garbage containers in accordance to company policy.
